“I found that it had a very flattering and natural way of bringing out the best in an acoustic guitar. High end clear and concise, low mids in check and no unnecessary embellishment. No matter the speakers, a warm and brilliant result every time. A tube flavor seems apparent ..

In the studio, the convenience of this mini powerhouse is but one amazing quality. 2 or 3 in house would be easily occupied as permanent fixtures at the back of any a/d converter. Great bass and keyboard character with all needed clarity. Super even, super warm. No nonsense reproduction in a shockingly tiny package!”

Thanks Bovas!

The MIGHTY G™ is the world’s most direct box.

The MIGHTY G is a robust active direct insertion box [DI] designed to be plugged directly into all electric and acoustic instruments with electromagnetic and piezo-type pickups as well as keyboards, stompboxes and vintage effects such as tape echoes.

The MIGHTY G converts high impedance signals to a robust low impedance balanced output capable of driving signals over long cables (to mic preamps and recording or live mixing consoles) without loss of signal quality.

The MIGHTY G is powered by NOS germanium transistors.

The MIGHTY G’s direct insertion design minimizes or eliminates radio frequency interference {RFI] and electromagnetic interference [EMF] commonly suffered by musicians, studio engineers and live sound mixers.  This design also eliminates the tone robbing effects of guitar cables by … eliminating the need for them !!!

The MIGHTY G™ produces a flattering sound quality due to the total absence of loading of the signal source. Additionally, its germanium transistors contribute a magical sonic presence not heard in passive transformer and IC [integrated circuit] direct box designs. Users remark that their instruments produced both deeper and brighter tone than they had previously experienced. In fact these qualities of their instrument had always been there … they had just never been heard before !

The MIGHTY G is 3.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.  It is housed in a sophisticated yet tough showroom-finish die-cast enclosure.  It fits in your pocket and plugs directly into most acoustic and electric guitars, basses and keyboards.  It has been designed to sound great, look important and perform flawlessly on live and in studio settings for many years to come.

The unit is phantom powered.  The input connector is a Switchcraft® 1/4” male switching jack.  There is also a female input model (the SE-DI3 F MIGHTY G) for use with instruments with hard-to-get-to output connectors.  The truly (not quasi) balanced output jack is an all-metal Switchcraft gold plated 3 pin XLR connector.

The MIGHTY G™ proudly features;

  •  all discrete class A active electronics … no ICs
  •  transformer-less design with vintage low noise (N.O.S.) germanium  transistors
  •  truly direct insertion (ie: plugs directly into your instrument)
    • eliminates signal loss by eliminating the need for 1/4” guitar cables
    • dramatically lowers hum and interference in both single coil and humbucking pickups
  •  phantom power – no batteries required !
  •  true symmetrically balanced outputs / not quasi balanced – capable of driving  long signal lines
    • silent plug built into 1/4” jack stops hums, squeals and pops when plug is removed from jack
  •  high impedance input ~ eliminates loading signal source
  •  hand wired circuitry
  •  rugged diecast aluminum enclosure
  •  48 volt phantom power
  •  Switchcraft and Neutrik (with gold plated pins) connectors
  •  20Hz  to  20Khz  +/-  1 db ref 1Khz frequency response

  4. The passive box sounds really small and like you’re in a different room with the instrument. The MIGHTY G you can hear the string vibrate … the beginnings and ends of all the notes … the sounds of my fingers on the strings … It’s amazing.

  5. I am now intimately involved with my d.i.- The Mighty G changed how i feel about my guitar. Sound guys are surprised and intrigued every time i shove it up my axe … hahahhahaheehee

  6. Hi Janet and Phil,

I recently worked with friends from Puremagnetik, a subscription sample instrument company, to re-create my Yamaha CP-70 … they do really cool stuff.

I love the sound of your Mighty G DI on the CP-70. It really made a big difference relative to other DI’s in my place, and of course, it went straight into a channel of your pre-amp. I’m happy to say they mention Sage in the write-up of the sample pak –

Beyond that, I am really enjoying the pre-amps. Most recently on drums, and very frequently on acoustic guitar.

    Thanks,

  8. plugging in the Mighty G made me want to do 3 things:
    1.record more instruments direct
    2. replace what i thought were acceptable pickups
    3. play more more more! (and get better)
The sound is as big as the item is small, this afternoon i made a very terrible “music”.
Everything was 1 take (well maybe 2), I played the same “song” (god it’s bad).
First with the Mighty G and the second was with a Radial JDI.
I went from the alternate di’s to the UAD pre and then to the Digi003 to pro tools never touching the knobs on the guitars. In protools I didn’t adjust anything except panning.
The first obvious thing is Volume, the second is dynamics, the third is use of the sonic spectrum, the MG had it all. what a joke the Radial is.
Word’s can’t express how terrible the Radial was in comparison, also words can’t express how great the Mighty G is.
When i showed Sarah the 2 versions of the song she too was without words, other than “really?….what? woah…….”
You can find the “song” (god i should have thought that part through more) through both di’s @ the sound samples page on the sage site just go to the folder and grab the 24 bits.

  11. Wow! just plugged it in w my guitar, the tone is AWESOME. Really well rounded, and responds extremely well to dynamics in playing- especially when I play hard, and really lay into the strings.

  12. I have had the pleasure of working with the MIGHTY G using my active Status-Graphite bass guitar for a short period. I recorded a funky section and the sonic spectrum was very impressive. Volume and playing dynamics were equally breath taking.
The MIGHTY G is a winner from every angle. It’s build rock solid and above all, it sounds fantastic, highly recommended!
